Job Description

Marin Open Studios is a Sausalito-based nonprofit that believes communities flourish when local artists thrive. This celebrated organization has increased the public’s engagement with established and emerging artists within Marin County located in the San Francisco metro area. By inviting the art-appreciating public into artists’ studios, we are increasing art appreciation and building future generations of artists and patrons.

The organization is seeking a visionary Director who will be responsible for overseeing artistic programming and fundraising, operations, volunteer management, and community engagement. This is a unique opportunity to lead a dynamic arts organization and shape its future. We seek a leader who is innovative, has a sense of humor, and brings a love of community. This position reports to the board of directors.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide strategic planning, leadership, and vision to advance the organization’s mission and artistic goals.
  • Manage the organization’s annual budgeting, oversee expenses, and the organization’s banking relationships.
  • Be proactive in fundraising planning, including cultivating donor relationships, securing grants, and overseeing fundraising events.
  • Serve as the public face of the organization, fostering relationships with diverse stakeholders, including artists, donors, media, and the local community.
  • Responsible for revenue-generating activities including Marin Open Studios Annual Weekends in May artist registration fees, event sponsorships, and donations.
  • Oversee marketing, communications, and public relations efforts, including leveraging digital and social media platforms.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Proven leadership experience, preferably in the arts or nonprofit sector.
  • Demonstrated success in fundraising, donor cultivation, and grant writing.
  • Excellent communication, public speaking, and relationship-building abilities.
  • Experience collaborating with a Board of Directors.
  • Passion for the arts and a deep appreciation for the organization’s mission and values.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

  • Entrepreneurial mindset, creativity, and innovative problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership in nonprofit management.
  • Event management.
  • Digital experience leveraging technology and social media for marketing and engagement.

This is a “seasonal” position: full time January through May, August through October and part time other months of the year. Base salary $60,000.
