Summary

The Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Manager is responsible for providing daily direction, developing, planning, and coordinating activities within the framework of Lakeview Farms Safety Program. The EHS Manager must be skilled in interpreting, communicating, and complying with regulations that apply across business operations. Exhibits exceptional leadership skills and is able to work across functional boundaries to achieve a zero-harm culture.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage the implementation and maintenance of safety programs, compliance plans, and initiatives.
  • Take the lead with investigation reports on accidents and injuries and ensure that we have identified the proper 'root cause' then build correction plans to ensure training, equipment and employees are making the required adjustments to reduce re-occurrence of safety issues/incidents.
  • Conduct, coordinate and track various training to support company programs.
  • Conduct routine safety observations to ensure compliance with regulatory agencies, company environmental, health, and safety policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Maintain internal and regulatory reporting including data collection and reporting including but not limited to air, storm water and surface water discharge.
  • Ensure the company meets all its legislative compliance obligations with OSHA, EPA, and fire codes.
  • Serve as primary contact for all regulatory agencies for inspections, permitting, reporting (air, water, waste).
  • Maintain compliance with permits, government regulations and other industry practices.
  • Keep abreast of any safety and environmental law or regulation changes that impact the organization.
  • Recommend measures to help protect workers from potentially hazardous work methods, processes, or materials.
  • Inspect or evaluate workplace environments, equipment, or practices to ensure compliance with safety standards and government regulations.
  • Develop or maintain hygiene programs, such as noise surveys, continuous atmosphere monitoring, or ventilation surveys.
  • Liaise with site HR Business Partners to provide new-employee health and safety orientations and develop materials for these presentations.
  • Coordinate "right-to-know" programs regarding hazardous chemicals or other substances.
  • Maintain or update emergency response plans or procedures.
  • Inspect specified areas to ensure the presence of fire prevention equipment, safety equipment, or first-aid supplies.
  • Maintain inventories of hazardous materials or hazardous wastes, using waste tracking systems to ensure that materials are handled properly.
  • Facilitate Company Safety Committees and recommend/implement/maintain safety incentive programs.
  • Maintain OSHA recordkeeping and manage workers compensation claims.
  • Assist with the Learning Management System (LMS) and ensure interactive and compliant Safety Training is available and utilized.
  • Serve as contact for LVF’s work comp insurance carrier’s loss control rep and state work comp agency reps.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with Operations, Managers, Supervisors, and employees.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Degree in safety management, environmental safety, engineering, chemistry, biology, or other related field, preferred.
  • 1 – 5 years’ experience in experience in leading and implementing safety and environmental health programs in a manufacturing environment is required.
  • Proven leader in EHS with sustained performance record - technical expert in principles, methodologies, and in the successful implementation of EHS culture.
  • Proficient PC skills including Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to be on call or work off hours as needed.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with attention to detail and organizational abilities.
  • Experience working with local regulatory agencies preferred.
  • Familiar with various emission control devices to ensure compliance.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.
