Founding Research Director – Wildfire Innovation & Resilience
URM Education Silicon Valley – Silicon Valley, CA (On-site / Hybrid)

URM Education is launching a visionary Wildfire Prevention Research Center at its new luxury innovation campus in Silicon Valley. We are seeking a Founding Research Director to lead its creation from the ground up — combining scientific rigor, project leadership, and innovation.

Responsibilities
• Lead scientific direction for wildfire prediction, prevention, and resilience research
• Design and oversee the buildout of labs, simulations, and testing infrastructure
• Manage grants, budgets, partnerships, and day-to-day operations
• Coordinate research on AI-based fire modeling, drone surveillance, fire-resistant materials, and more
• Engage with institutions (Stanford, Cal Fire, NASA), tech companies, and policy makers
• Supervise a multidisciplinary team of scientists, engineers, and students
• Represent WIRC at conferences, panels, and funding pitches

Ideal Profile
• PhD or Master’s in Environmental Science, Forestry, Climate Tech, AI for Risk, or related field
• Strong experience in scientific project management and public-private partnerships
• Proven research in fire ecology, disaster prevention, or resilient design preferred
• Exceptional communicator with leadership capacity to build and scale a world-class center
• Bonus: Experience with grant writing (FEMA, Cal Fire, NSF), startup research, or academic-industry collaboration
