JOB SUMMARY

The Lead Midstream & CCUS Commissioning Mechanic is responsible for ensuring the reliability, maintenance, and optimization of compressor engines and related equipment within Midstream Operations, while also providing commissioning and operational support for Carbon Capture and Sequestration (CCUS) projects at remote locations.


This role oversees mechanical integrity, minimizes downtime, and drives operational efficiency across midstream assets and CCUS facilities. The Lead Midstream & CCUS Commissioning Mechanic serves as the primary technical resource for CCUS commissioning activities, ensuring successful start-up and sustained performance of carbon capture stations, while supporting overall project execution and operational readiness.

This role involves hands-on technical work, team leadership, and ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards. Works under limited supervision in non-routine situations. May lead daily operations and coach, delegate and review the work of junior employees. Problems faced are generally difficult and non-routine. Demonstrates integrity, accountability and transparency; upholds BKV standards, values and culture.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Typical job responsibilities of the Lead Midstream & CCUS Commissioning Mechanic include:

  • Lead a team of mechanics, assign tasks, provide technical guidance, and ensure work quality and adherence to schedules and documentation.
  • Perform and supervise preventive and corrective maintenance on compressors, engines, pumps, and auxiliary systems, including mechanical and electrical troubleshooting, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues.
  • Use diagnostic tools and techniques to identify equipment failures, analyze root causes, and implement effective solutions.
  • Monitor equipment performance, recommend upgrades or modifications, and ensure optimal operation to meet production goals.
  • Ensure all work complies with industry standards, environmental regulations, and company safety protocols.
  • Conduct safety inspections and risk assessments.
  • Manage spare parts inventory, order necessary materials, and maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, repairs, and equipment performance.
  • Train and develop junior mechanics on equipment operation, maintenance procedures, and safety practices.
  • Assist with verification of new hire competency.
  • Collaborate with operations, engineering, and management teams to schedule maintenance, address operational challenges, and support project execution.
  • Provide rapid response to equipment breakdowns, ensuring minimal disruption to production schedules.
REQUIRED SKILLS
  • Understanding of natural gas industry standards, market trends, emerging issues and regulatory requirements.
  • Expertise in compressor and engine systems, rotating equipment, and control systems.
  • Proficiency with diagnostic tools, precision instruments, and maintenance software.
  • Ability to use SCADA and basic computer skills (Microsoft office).
  • Relevant certifications (CAT, Waukesha, or Ariel compressor training, OSHA safety certifications) are highly desirable.
  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities, ability to innovate, embrace change and have grit.
  • Ability to travel to remote locations to commission, assess needs, and provide operational solutions.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical diploma or associate degree in mechanical engineering, industrial maintenance, or related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in maintaining and repairing compressor engines and oil and gas equipment, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or lead role.
  • Experience with carbon capture and sequestration operations a plus.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORKING CONDITIONS
  • This field-based position is based in the Barnett Field/Fort Worth basin working at midstream facilities but requires travel to remote locations.
  • Some travel (approximately 25%) will be required in and out of state to remote locations during scheduled commissioning and startup of new projects, follow-up visits during regular operations and assisting with unplanned events.
  • Field-based role requires work in remote locations and outdoor environments with exposure to varying weather conditions, noise, dust, chemicals, and industrial hazards; frequent travel, extended shifts, and on-call duties may be necessary to support operations and commissioning activities.
  • Role requires the ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and remote locations; stand, walk, climb, bend, kneel for extended periods; lift and carry up to 50 lbs; operate tools and equipment safely; wear required PPE; and tolerate exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, and other industrial hazards.
  • Strict adherence to safety protocols, including use of PPE, is required.
