Under the direction of the Director of Organizational Development in the Office of Human Resources, the Organizational Development Coordinator will join a team working to support, engage, and develop the City workforce.
The Coordinator plays a crucial role in supporting the professional growth and development of employees within the City of Boston. This position is responsible for implementing and evaluating a wide range of training programs and initiatives to enhance employee skills, knowledge, and performance.
Responsibilities
Needs Analysis & Content Creation:
Support training needs assessments to identify training gaps and prioritize development areas across all departments, focusing on high-priority audiences such as city-wide managers and HR staff.
Create engaging and effective training materials, including presentations, workshops, internal procedures, and job aids.
Consult and collaborate with team members in the Office of Human Resources to develop training plans, marketing, and communications related to training and development opportunities.
Work with the HR Communications Coordinator to update content on the employee portal and market training events to the workforce.
Training Delivery & Facilitation
Coordinate training and workshop logistics, including scheduling vendors and presenters, booking venues, recruiting staff volunteers, ordering refreshments, managing registration, coordinating photography/videography, etc.
Facilitate workshops, webinars, and other learning events, both in-person and virtually, ensuring a positive and inclusive learning environment and utilizing a variety of instructional methods.
Maintain accurate records of training, attendance, completion, and evaluation results.
Evaluation & Improvement
Collect and analyze data to evaluate the effectiveness of programs, including participant feedback, performance improvements, and return on investment.
Continuously improve programs based on evaluation results and best practices.
Develop and maintain a system for tracking employee engagement, training and development activities.
Stay informed about the latest trends and best practices in organizational development, including adult learning principles, change management, instructional design, and technology-enabled learning.
Ensure training programs comply with relevant public sector laws, regulations, and procedures.
Vendor Management
Communicate and manage relationships with external training vendors, including assistance with selection, contracting, and performance monitoring.
Research and recommend relevant training programs offered by external providers to internal stakeholders such as cabinet and department leadership.
Other Duties As Assigned
Assist with other HR initiatives related to organizational development, communications, performance management, etc.
Minimum Entrance Qualifications
Two (2) years of work experience is required. A Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, Education, Communications, Organizational Development, or a related field may substitute for the two (2) years of work experience.
Exceptional customer service, specifically serving the public and City workers.
A passion for delivering impactful programs that create a positive and inclusive workplace culture.
Knowledge of training and development principles, practices, adult learner methodology, and learning technology.
Strong communication and public speaking skills, with the ability to build relationships with employees, stakeholders, leadership, and vendors.
Familiarity with program evaluation, data analytics, and budgeting.
Ability to effectively organize and manage multiple projects and initiatives simultaneously.
Extremely organized and detail-oriented.
Proficient with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, or related software.
