The Quality Assurance Inspector role is a part-time role providing technical expertise and ensuring the end user/customer receives the highest quality buses built to their specifications. This position involves thorough inspections throughout various stages of the manufacturing process to ensure compliance with customer quality control standards.

The selected candidate will be supporting Capitol GCS clients engaged in the procurement, maintenance and operation of bus fleets. Experience in bus fleets and associated specifications, inspection processes, safety standards such as the North American Out of Service Criteria, and recommended maintenance practices is mandatory.

Inspectors will collaborate closely with OEM production and quality teams, addressing quality issues as they arise and providing technical expertise on best practices to ensure compliance with customer specifications.

Job Duties

  • Ability to conduct Quality Assurance audits during the manufacture of new buses
  • Conduct audits and inspection of buses, coaches and other transit-related vehicles such as non-revenue vehicles at client locations and recognize and report defects.
  • Perform final inspections on complete buses prior to delivery to ensure adherence to customer specifications.
  • Background to interpret project requirements and procedures
  • Skill to use measurement tools in the performance of inspection tasks
  • Document and communicate all inspection results, quality issues, and corrective actions in daily and weekly progress reports.
  • Participate in and contribute to root cause analysis for defects and collaborate with OEM teams to implement effective solutions as well as ensuring that these solutions are applied to all buses in a sales order.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience performing QA/QC activities for transit vehicles manufacturing.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Familiarity with quality control standards and methodologies.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Capacity to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite software.
  • Certification in quality assurance or inspection is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of systems used on transit vehicles including propulsion, vehicle body structural design, brakes, doors, mechanical systems controls, HVAC, wheelchair ramps and lifts. Specific significant expertise in one of these systems is a plus.
  • Ability to conduct full inspection and audit of vehicles systems including full function tests, visual inspection of chassis and suspension, brake safety systems, interiors, propulsion system operation and recognize and report defects including defects which fail the North American Out of Service Criteria and non-compliance to proper configuration.
  • Knowledge of bus manufacturing process including Quality Control test, measurement and reporting procedures.
