Qualifications Basic Requirement: You must provide supporting documentation in your application to show you meet the basic requirement below. Degree: in operations research; or at least 24 semester hours in a combination of operations research, mathematics, probability, statistics, mathematical logic, science, or subject-matter courses requiring substantial competence in college-level mathematics or statistics. At least 3 of the 24 semester hours must have been in calculus. You qualify for this position if you meet the basic requirement, as described above, and possess one year of specialized experience listed below. Experience: You qualify for the GS-15 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Demonstrating expert knowledge of identifying potential problem areas or trends where the agency can improve program operations utilizing advanced mathematical and statistical theories, principles, concepts, and methods. Serving as the authoritative expert within the field of operations research and CBP representative on the development of and findings from advanced analytical activities presented to CBP executive leadership and other high-level stakeholders. Exhibiting a mastery of the application of advanced statistical knowledge to automatic data processing principles and procedures and statistical software packages required to process and analyze data. Demonstrating expert ability to communicate in writing and prepare technical reports and briefs for the highest levels of agency leadership, as well as other audiences who possess various levels of statistical comprehension. Leading a team producing agency-wide analytic, modeling, and/or simulation projects, including designing analytical products to better inform and support critical CBP decision-making processes. Supervisory Probationary Period: You may be required to serve an 18 month probationary period upon appointment. Leadership Training: All newly appointed GS-15s are required to complete mandatory training. The training will be scheduled by the Office of Training and Development within the first 90 days of appointment. The duration of the training will include 5 weeks of in residence training in Harpers Ferry, WV. Note: This training may be waived if previously completed.
