The UMMG Staff Physician provides medical care to patients based on proper documentation in the medical record as outlined by the medical staff rules and regulations. The incumbent in this position receives patient assignments based on their educational discipline, expertise or experience. Core job functions include developing and carrying out a comprehensive medical treatment plan addressing biological, psychological, and sociocultural domains; performing physical assessments; prescribing medical treatment and clinical drugs; gathering essential and accurate information through review of records and interviews; reporting to the responsible physician and complying with policy co-signatures; reporting hazardous or unsafe conditions; reporting all Quality Assurance incidences including medication errors; assuming responsibility for increasing knowledge and expertise by attending continuing education; making informed decisions about interventions based on patient information, scientific evidence, and clinical judgment; maintaining confidentiality of patient information according to federal and state guidelines; and adhering to University and unit-level policies and safeguarding University assets. The position requires an M.D. in a relevant field, certification in a relevant specialty, and a minimum of 3 years of experience. Skills include ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships, work independently or collaboratively, analyze and prioritize work under pressure, handle confidential information with discretion, and work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
