Job Description
Position Summary:
The Lead Health Educator is responsible for the design, implementation, and evaluation of health education programs that serve diverse populations within both healthcare networks and the broader community. This position oversees and supports health education staff, ensures adherence to contractual and organizational health education standards, and fosters relationships with community and internal stakeholders to enhance access to preventive and educational health services.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Provide leadership and day-to-day support to health educators, including guidance on program delivery and resolution of operational issues.
Act in an administrative capacity in the absence of department leadership.
Develop and assess health education initiatives targeting specific populations, geographies, and contract requirements.
Conduct needs assessments to inform program strategy and identify service gaps.
Collaborate on the development of internal health education materials and resources.
Identify community-based health education services and establish referral relationships where appropriate.
Serve as a liaison with internal departments, public health agencies, social services, and community-based organizations to ensure up-to-date resource information and coordinated services.
Support the development and refinement of health education databases and reporting tools.
Participate in interdisciplinary work groups and quality improvement initiatives.
Coordinate and conduct evaluations of health education services offered by medical groups and providers in accordance with contract standards.
Submit timely reports and documentation as required.
Ensure compliance with confidentiality standards and data privacy regulations, including HIPAA.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Education: Master’s degree in Public Health, Health Education, Health Promotion, or a closely related field; or equivalent experience and certification (e.g., Certified Diabetes Educator or similar).
Experience:
0–2 years of experience working with culturally diverse, low-income, or underserved populations in healthcare or community health settings.
Prior supervisory or lead-level experience is required.
Skills and Competencies:
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to lead teams and manage multiple projects.
Proficiency in conducting health assessments and data interpretation.
Knowledge of community health resources and effective referral systems.
Strong organizational, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
Technologically proficient, including familiarity with Microsoft Office and database systems.
Demonstrated cultural competence and sensitivity.
Work Environment & Conditions:
Primarily office-based, with potential for travel to community sites and partner organizations.
May require occasional participation in community events or meetings outside of standard business hours.
