Job Title: Principal Scientist/Associate Director, Molecular & Cellular Biology
Job Number: 36435
Location: Emeryville,CA
Job Description
We are looking for an accomplished scientist and inspiring leader to help propel our RNA sensor platform forward. This role involves hands-on work designing RNA constructs, performing cloning, preparing LNP/lentiviral deliveries, and developing and screening cell-based assays. The ideal candidate will bring scientific rigor and creativity to troubleshooting complex molecular and cellular challenges, while also fostering a collaborative and high-performing lab environment.
Responsibilities
You’ll guide team growth through mentorship and clear technical direction, establishing goals, timelines, and risk mitigation strategies. In partnership with leadership and data science, you'll shape project strategy, align cross-functional milestones, and adapt in real-time. Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset will be essential for managing external relationships with CROs, academic partners, and strategic collaborators to accelerate in vivo proof-of-concept efforts.
Required Skills
Ph.D. (or equivalent) in Molecular Biology, Bioengineering, Chemical Biology, or a related field, with a minimum of 5 years of industry experience.
Demonstrated success advancing therapeutic programs through IND-enabling stages, with a deep understanding of the genetic medicine development lifecycle—from platform buildout to preclinical readiness.
Extensive hands-on expertise in CRISPR technologies, plasmid/RNA engineering, high-throughput assay development, next-generation sequencing workflows, AAV capsid engineering, lentiviral delivery, and primary cell assays/cell line development.
Additional experience with RNA editing, lab automation, and integration of AI/ML tools into molecular biology workflows is highly valued.
Proven leadership in building and managing high-performing wet-lab teams, including hiring, mentorship, setting technical direction, and driving accountability.
Clear and effective communicator across internal and external stakeholders; familiarity with grant writing, patent applications, and regulatory or agency reporting is a plus.
